Iron defficiency in women

This is common and no it is not normal to be mildly anaemic. Iron levels are measured by serum Ferritin and < 15 = iron deficient.


  1. you cannot eat your way out of iron deficiency.
  2. You do not have to eat meat but you do need to look at your diet for the future
  3. You need help and this is iron tablets; one a day (65mg elemental iron) is enough for at least 3-6 months If they cause side effects then try alternative days
  4. Check with GP about other causes of blood loss
